Nonwovens in the furniture industry

These strong, lightweight and versatile materials are used in a variety of ways in seating, mattresses, cushions and covers.

In sofas and chairs, nonwovens are often used as a underlayer under upholstery, to cover interior structures or as a separation layer between foam and upholstery. They provide a tight finish, protect the foam from damage and improve the shape retention of the piece of furniture. In addition, nonwovens are used on the bottom of furniture as a dust seal, reducing the opportunity for dust and dirt to enter.

In addition, nonwovens are used as pull and tilt strips to tightly secure the fabric in a piece of furniture or cushion without the use of buttons.
