Curtains

Steady & strong

The top of a curtain must be sturdy enough to form pleats properly, to support hooks or rings without tearing the fabric, and to ensure a tight finish. To achieve this, a strip of nonwoven material is applied to the back of the fabric, at the level of the head of the curtain. This strip is usually between 10 and 15 centimeters high and is either ironed on (when using iron-on non-woven material), or stitched along during sewing.

The nonwoven material used for this purpose is usually light to medium weight (often about 80 to 100 grams per square meter). Applying this layer before attaching the pleat tape makes the top of the curtain more sturdy and stable. This makes sewing the pleat tape easier and makes the pleats fall more beautifully.
