Within 2 metres of the tree

Root guidance
When a screen needs to be placed within 2 metres of the tree root, root guidance is advised. A root guiding system features vertical ribs that function as ground anchors. In addition, these guide ribs ensure that tree roots are guided downwards, preventing a “flower pot effect”.

Fastest installation time

With an installation capacity of over 818 metres per hour*, makes the RootBarrier® RollRib® the fastest root guiding system to install on the market. Because the RollRib® comes in rolls of 12, 21 or 75 metres, installation is so quick and easy. Each metre includes a perforation line to make it easy to cut the desired size.

Frequently asked questions

When do you use root protection and when do you use root guidance?

The fixed rule when making this decision is:

  • Will the screen be placed within 2 meters of the tree? Then choose root guidance.
  • Will the screen be placed further than 2 meters from the tree? Then choose root protection.

A root protection screen cannot be placed too close to a tree. The smooth material allows the roots to grow around it, causing the risk of the "flower pot effect". This means that the tree does not have enough grip in the ground, which could cause it to blow over in a storm. With a root guiding system, the roots are guided downwards with the aid of vertical guiding ribs and this prevents a "flower pot effect" from occurring.

What is the installation depth of the RootBarrier® RollRib®?

There is no standard installation depth. It always depends on the surroundings, the depth of the cable/conduit, the type of tree, the type of soil and the groundwater level. In most cases, an installation depth of 59 cm or 90 cm is sufficient.
